DOCTRINAL STATEMENT

Bayview Baptist Church adopts the Holy Bible as our rule of faith, practice and operation. We believe that the Bible contains the revelation of God to humanity and it is the supreme standard by which all humanity will be rewarded or judged.

All Bylaws, traditions and policies approved by Bayview Church are subject to the authority of Scripture and are made in accordance with standard Baptist beliefs and in line with our adopted church covenant. The following statements summarize what Bayview Baptist Church believes the Scriptures state in regards to God, the fall of humanity, salvation, justification, sanctification, church ordinances and the world to come:

God
We believe that there is One, and only One true living God, an infinite and intelligent Spirit, whose name is Jehovah, the maker and Supreme Ruler of heaven and earth. We further believe in the unity of the Godhead comprised of three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, equal in every divine perfection and executing distinct but harmonious offices in the great work of redemption (John 4:24; Matt.28:19; Eph. 2:18).

The Fall of Humanity
We believe that humanity was created in holiness under the Law of God, but by voluntary transgression fell from that holy state. As a consequence, humanity is now sinful and is in need of a Savior in order to be redeemed from this condition (Gen. 1:27; 3:6-24; Rom. 5:19).

Salvation
We believe that sinners are saved solely through the grace of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who by appointment of the Father, freely took upon himself our nature, yet without sin, and died for us making a full atonement for our past, present and future transgressions. We believe that Jesus rose from the dead and is now enthroned in heaven making intercession for us as Lord, Savior and Redeemer. We further believe that sinners must be born again, or regenerated, in order to be share in this salvation experience (John 3:3; 14:6; Rom. 10:9; Eph. 2:5; Phil. 2:6, 7; Isa. 53:4, 5; Heb. 1:8; 7:25).

Justification
We believe in the doctrine of justification, which includes the pardon of sin and the promise of eternal life based on principles of righteousness that are bestowed on believers simply by grace and not of any works of righteousness that we may do. We further believe that we are justified solely by faith in our Redeemer’s blood, by which His righteousness is freely imparted to us by God (John 1:16; Rom 5:9; II Cor. 5:21).

Sanctification
We believe that sanctification is a process by which we are made partakers of His Holiness. Sanctification is a progressive work that occurs in the believer the moment we believe on Jesus as Savior for our sins. This progressive work continues within us by the ministry of the Holy Spirit (I Cor. 6:11; Rom. 15:16; Eph. 1:13; I Thess 4:3).

The Ordinances of the Church
We believe the Scriptures identify two Church ordinances: Baptism and Communion (the Lord’s Supper). Baptism, according to Baptist belief, is the immersion of a believer in water to show forth the believer’s faith in the crucified, buried and risen Savior. Baptism signifies our death to sin and our resurrection to a new life. Baptism is therefore a symbolic act that should occur after a believer professes faith in Jesus and has received salvation. Baptism is a prerequisite to receiving Communion.

Communion is the second Church Ordinance whereby believers come together to receive bread representing the Lord’s body, and the fruit of the vine, symbolizing the Lord’s blood. This commemorative act is illustrative of the Lord’s sacrifice on the cross at Calvary for our sins (Matt. 28:19; Ac. 8:36-39; I Cor.11: 26, 28; 5:7-8).

The World to Come
We believe the Scriptures teach that the end of the world is approaching; that at the last day, Christ will descend from heaven, and raise the dead from the grave for final retribution; that a solemn separation will then take place; that the wicked will be adjudged to endless punishment, and the righteous to endless joy; and that this judgment will fix forever the final state of men in heaven or hell, on principles of righteousness. (I Cor 15:50-54; I Thess. 4:14-17)
